Investigators have found that Muhammod Abdulazeez followed a radical member of al Qaeda.

The Chattanooga shooter downloaded audio recordings of Anwar Al-Awlaki, a recruiter for al Qaeda. He also researched militant Islamist guidance on committing violence.

Abdulazeez was accompanied by two other men when he bought ammunition at the Walmart in Hixson July 11th.

On Monday the FBI searched the home of a friend at Mountain Creek Apartments in Red Bank.

The FBI has also finished interviewing the shooter’s immediate family.

Abdulazeez’ uncle is being detained for questioning in Jordan. But a family spokesperson denies reports the uncle is connected to the attack.

The FBI has scheduled a news conference for noon today.

A new report says a Navy officer and a Marine both shot at the Chattanooga gunman.

It’s unclear whether Abdulazeez was hit by either of their gunfire.

It’s also unknown why the two servicemen were armed. It’s against Defense Department policy for them to carry weapons on the property.

President Obama has ordered flags flown at half-staff until the end of the week.

The decision came five days after the shooting, after the president faced increasing criticism.

Obama called the victims of the attack American heroes.

Funeral services will take place Friday for Staff Sergeant David Wyatt. He lived in Hixson with his family.

Services are set for 1 p.m. at Hixson United Methodist Church.

He and Navy petty officer Randall Smith will be buried at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In the meantime, the city is researching laws to ban protesters from the funerals.
